In-ear monitors replace traditional stage wedges (floor speakers) with earpieces that deliver a customized mix directly to each performer. This gives musicians precise control over what they hear, reduces stage volume, and minimizes feedback.
IEM systems consist of a transmitter (connected to the monitor console), a bodypack receiver (worn by the performer), and the earpieces themselves. Custom-molded earpieces offer the best fit, isolation, and sound quality.
The transition from wedges to IEMs is one of the biggest improvements in live sound. Performers hear more clearly, protect their hearing, and the FOH engineer has a cleaner stage to work with.
