PA System

Public Address system — the speakers, amplifiers, and signal processors that deliver sound to an audience.

A PA system is the complete audio reproduction chain for live sound: microphones → mixing console → signal processing → amplifiers → speakers. It ranges from a single powered speaker for small events to massive line array systems for festivals.

Components include: main speakers (FOH), subwoofers (low frequencies), monitor wedges (stage), amplifiers (power), crossovers (frequency routing), and signal processors (EQ, compression, limiting).

PA system sizing depends on venue capacity, indoor vs outdoor, and the type of event. Underpowered systems sound thin and distorted; oversized systems waste budget. Getting this right is a core skill for live sound professionals.
